Istanbul, April 13 (Petra) -- First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Khamis Atiyeh met with Deputy Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council, Hamda Al-Sulaiti, on Monday to discuss strengthening legislative ties and addressing regional stability.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Arab Group meeting during the 125th Inter-Parliamentary Union session currently held in Istanbul, Turkiye.

Atiyeh, who is leading the Jordanian parliamentary delegation, emphasized the depth of relations between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He noted that the partnership between Amman and Doha is built on mutual respect and continuous coordination regarding Arab and Islamic affairs.

During the talks, which included Jordanian lawmakers Huda Naffaa and Nour Abu Ghosh, Atiyeh expressed the Lower House's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the Qatari Shura Council to exchange expertise and align positions on shared interests.

The Deputy Speaker affirmed Jordan’s rejection of any actions that infringe upon the sovereignty or security of Qatar, stating that the stability of Arab nations is an indivisible responsibility. He simultaneously underscored that Jordan maintains the same firm stance against any threats to its own national security and sovereignty.

Regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Atiyeh reiterated Jordan's condemnation of Israeli settlement policies and ongoing violations against the Palestinian people. He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and adherence to international legitimacy to achieve a comprehensive and just peace.

Atiyeh also highlighted the historical and legal significance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He stressed the importance of protecting these sites from extremist plans and repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli officials.
